Neighborhood Housing for Fishermen

The project of developing beautiful neighborhood housing for fishermen located at Paluhan Seruai, in the administrative regency of Labuhan Deli and sub-regency of Medan Labuhan was proposed by the Medan Regional Development Board when H. Bachtiar Djafar was the head of the municipality of Medan. It was officially inaugurated by Ir. Akbar Tanjung (The Minister of State for People's Housing) on 1 July 1993. It was built to increase the income and quality of life of local fishermen. The city hopes to create river channels which can be used by canoes and small boats in the neighborhood in order to attract tourists.

The local government in Medan intends to build a total of 2,044 houses in Kampung Nelayan Indah (Beautiful Fishermen's Neighborhood), 924 of which will be type 27 houses. 910 houses have already been built. The local government has also planned to change a nearby area into an industrial park.
