ARTS AND CRAFTS
As a tourist destination North Sumatra has a lot of Indonesian cultural heritage. Traditional arts and crafts are common. Most art in this area reflects the folk art and beliefs of common people although some of it has changed in recent years.
Almost all tribes in North Sumatra have well-known art forms. Art forms come from Malay, Toba, Karo, Mandailing, Simalungun, Pak - Pak, Dairi, and Nias. Carved objects, plaited materials, relief carvings, antiques, agricultural tools, musical instruments, and traditional textiles (ulos) are available at almost all tourist attractions. These are good for souvenirs.
